Visiting the Area

The area is steeped in history with much to see from prehistoric tumulii to the victorian attempt to build a model farm on the lines of the factory communities established by Cadbury and Salt in the midlands. Tucked away in the northwest corner of the "Isle of Purbeck" the combined parishes of Affpuddle and Turnerspuddle lie in classic Thomas Hardy country and contain the last home of Lawrence of Arabia. On the western edge is the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum and to the south are the seaside and maritime delights of the Heritage Coast, Poole and Weymouth as well as the national attractions of Monkey World and the Tank Museum at Bovington. All around is the local countryside of farmland, forest and heath much treasured for its peace and quiet as well as providing habitat for rare wildlife. The parishes represent a little bit of old England with the majority of the community living in Briantspuddle and within a conservation area centred upon the ancient villages of Affpuddle and Turnerspuddle - places for reflection within easy reach of excitement.
