This locally famous golf competition was first started in 1998 by Robin Gainsford. On most Saturdays throughout the year, weather permitting (and also when it is not so permitting) Robin and a group of friends, some from Briantspuddle and some from further afield play a friendly but competitive round of golf followed by a social update on the 19th hole. The game is played by the PGA rules plus a few extra "Robin's rules"! The group consists of about 16 regular players and guests are always welcome.
The organization of the Briantspuddle Open rests on the shoulders of the winners of the previous year's competition; this also includes the organization of the evening meal which is open to friends and partners.
